SPRING

Wheaton West Spring Hockey

We are pleased to announce the start of our Spring Season beginning Monday, March 24, 2010.
Practices will be Wednesdays, 9:00pm to 10:30pm at Center Ice of DuPage. We will also have a JV team in the Spring League. This league will run from March 27 through the beginning of June and entails a 10 game minimum plus playoffs.  If more than 1 JV tier is offered, we will participate in the upper tier. These games will be on weekends.

In our skill sessions, we are working to create a fun and innovative hockey learning environment with the focus on individual skill development. During the season coaches often do not get to focus their attention on the individual level skills as we are trying to create team systems and focus. This is a great opportunity for players to improve their overall game.

The clinic will run by Varsity Coaches and will be set up in stations that players will rotate through and will focus on the following:

  • Skating - stride, quicker feet, agility, strength, better starts, lateral movement, edge control, over-speed skating
  • Passing - Better throwing and receiving of forehand and backhand passes while in motion, better ice vision, better and quicker passing decisions
  • Shooting - Shot strength, accuracy and placement, array (all 4 shot improvement), one-timers
  • Stickhandling - Strength on the puck, quicker hands, puck control, puck control in traffic
  • Goaltending - Core strength, movement, puckhandling, rebound control, athleticism, vision, reaction

Since we are offering only 1 team this spring, returning Varsity players may also participate.  Many teams have historically done this for the spring league.

The cost for the Spring Session will be $500, although if you register by February 28, 2010, the fee will be discounted to $450. The fee covers the costs of the skills development sessions and at least 10 games for each player.  In addition, anyone who does not already have USA hockey insurance for the 2009-2010 season through another club must purchase this insurance before taking the ice.

For our new players, please confirm your desire to play for us so that we can get your uniforms ordered.  Ordering early will get you your uniform more quickly and best allow you to obtain the number you wish to have.  The cost for our uniforms is $350 which includes a home and away jersey with your name, a pants shell, and socks.  These uniforms will also be used during your high school career.

We feel this spring program provides an excellent value for our players and provides significant game time plus interaction with our coaches to work on the skills necessary to compete at a high level of high school hockey.  For our incoming players, this will allow you to get to know our program, players, and coaches.  Our community of parents has worked hard along with our dedicated coaches to make this a club kids who love hockey want to play for.
